The light cruisers all look the same, the cruiser and battlecruiser look the same, yet their fire arcs differ so you want to position them differently. The Necron spread lightning stance (when attacking a ship with your arc guns you also deal half-damage attacks to all other ships in range) seems OP at first glance but in these battles you need that damage multiplier to handle the onslaught of enemies.Īlso man, Necron ships are hard to tell apart. Besides, I rarely have a strength number advantage, it's the actual battle that lets me destroy all enemies with zero losses of my own. Yes, there's autobattle but it seems too risky given how valuable these ships are. And I have access to 5 or so sectors while I've only taken over the first two with barely a foot set into the other three and missions wanting me to go into all of them. Also defending fleets usually have more points than the command limit allows on the field at once so there's reinforcements flowing in after you kill some of them, making battles last even longer. The sheer volume of battles and fronts in the campaign is getting exhausting, playing Necron ATM and every turn I have to fend off 1-2 assaults while also dishing out my own attacks, that's a lot of fights just to advance a single turn. The construction, repair and upgrade stuff happens between matches. You don't build more ships mid-match because the match is practically one battle and lasts only a few minutes. Deployments are points based, each player gets a point budget to pick ships with. ![]() Sometimes you just had to fight using your leftovers (or even freely available substitutes with base stats) if your beloved flagship ate it last round. Having a ship crippled or destroyed would put it out of action for a few matches (at least there's no permadeath like in Blood Bowl and if you really want to you can pay some of your upgrade currency to repair them quicker) so there's an incentive to make your ships flee if things go south (still risks "lost in the warp" status which equally makes it miss 1-2 matches). I bought this on a whim last year, because of the 25% discount (for owners of the previous game, I think?) and because I enjoyed both of their previous games.īattlefleet Gothic is a board game and the Armada games reflect that, BFGA1 treated your ships as a persistent team even in skirmish mode.
